The last generation of portuguese cod fisherman is disappearing, and Severino Tomas was one of the last fishermen who used the “Doris” boat, experiencing its wholeness and tradition.
Severino shared with us his thoughts, beliefs, adventures and tricks about the old times when he was on the sea, always with his peculiar sense of humor. As a way to fix these memories, we developed nine ceramic pieces illustrated with uncertain and shaky lines, symbolizing the uncertainties of life itself, and the ripple that was felt on the boat.
This collection was integrated in the exhibition “Ílhavo, Memórias e Identidade” at Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo, in Aveiro, and later on was also exhibited at University of Aveiro, Algarve Design Meeting and Museu de Santa Joana.
